  1. IDK what to tell you, but here in the Midweset where the power comes from coal and gas, there are rolling blackouts too. Luckily, my neighborhood has been spared. But, it didn’t stop all the plants in my wife’s greenhouse from dying. The space heater for the greenhouse was keeping up (barely) when the temp was 5° F. However, when it dipped below zero, all her plants froze. Pretty traumatic for her.

      1. Interesting. Most Tulsa power is from a power plant on the west side of the river near downtown. Every time I drive my bicycle past the plant my eyes start watering because of the natural gas they use. I entered my zip code in their form and none of their products were available to me.

I think the biggest investor in OK wind power was T. Boone Pickens (Pickins?). He was a billionaire oil and gas guy that saw the future.

  2. Later stories show that it wasn’t just the windmills that were frozen. Gas wellheads froze too! And other energy sources were stressed.

So it’s not all the fault of the windmills, and if everything was powered by gas, there might still have been problems.

  3. In other news, engineers in California landed a rover on Mars in negative 80 degree (F) weather, with enough power and batteries to keep it running for 14 or so years. Also, they’re federally regulated.
