{"id":3249,"date":"2023-05-07T20:01:39","date_gmt":"2023-05-07T20:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crowhill.net\/blog\/?p=3249"},"modified":"2023-05-07T20:01:39","modified_gmt":"2023-05-07T20:01:39","slug":"did-same-sex-marriage-give-us-cancel-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crowhill.net\/blog\/2023\/05\/07\/did-same-sex-marriage-give-us-cancel-culture\/","title":{"rendered":"Did same-sex marriage give us cancel culture?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Maher recently asked Elon Musk about the origin of the &#8220;woke mind virus.&#8221; I wasn&#8217;t impressed with the answers. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s fairly obvious to me that woke-ism came from the left, so Bill Maher should be asking himself what it is about modern leftism that planted the seeds for this mind virus. <\/p>\n<p>Possibilities might include &#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> An over-emphasis on the individual rights of minority groups.\n<li> The emphasis on identity politics.\n<li> A horror of possibly offending marginalized groups.\n<li> The birth of &#8220;equity&#8221; out of the &#8220;social justice&#8221; concept. <\/ul>\n<p>But just today I listened to a &#8220;First Things&#8221; podcast on <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/matthew-schmitz-on-how-gay-marriage-changed-america\/id985719424?i=1000610917886\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how same-sex marriage changed America,<\/a> in which Matthew Schmitz seems to argue that this was the first time media and corporate American was weaponized against dissent. <\/p>\n<p>If you disagreed with same-sex marriage, you were an awful person who should be excluded from polite society, and from making a living. <\/p>\n<p>Looking back, it does seem likely that the same-sex marriage disputes were a tipping point.
