My letter to Kohl’s

This is about the recent decision by Kohl’s corporate to stop carrying My Pillow products because you want to be woke.

I despise this woke blacklisting stuff, and I believe it is very bad for the country. If you don’t reverse your decision and apologize, I will have to re-evaluate shopping at Kohl’s.

Is that what you want? Do you want your customers to decide whether they do business with you based on your products and services, or do you want us to apply a political litmus test? Are we going to have Red America and Blue America stores? What’s next, Red America and Blue America credit cards?

This is insanity, and I urge you to walk back from the brink.

I hope both companies lose lots of business over this and reverse their stupid decisions.

  1. My Pillow caused such a stir, as I understand the situation, because its CEO, Mike Lindell, “called for some voters in Georgia, which collectively voted against Trump, to be imprisoned and for Trump to impose ‘martial law’ in seven states.” Also: “On January 15, 2021, Lindell entered the West Wing of the White House bearing a document that appeared to refer to martial law and the Insurrection Act, per an enhanced photo.” If someone cancels his product, I think it is because he engaged in such hostility towards the country. That is not about Blue vs. Red in any ideological sense.

    1. Those things are alleged. Did you check to see if it’s true? Do you think Kohl’s or Bed Bath and Beyond checked to see if it was true? Do you think it even matters if it’s true?

Many of the knee-jerk reactions and slogans from the woke are based on a lie. E.g., “hands up, don’t shoot.” They rush to judgment based on early reporting, which is almost always wrong, and then refuse to change their minds once more information comes out.

      1. I didn’t say that the allegations were true. I only said that they are most likely the cause of cancellations of My Pillow. However, given the fact that Lindell is among the few remaining close to Trump, and also in view of the fact that Trump did plainly instigate violent invasion of the Capitol and has become increasingly isolated in his comfort zone in recent weeks, I suspect that Lindell is indeed an unhinged extremist. It has nothing to do with wokeness or left vs. right. It is most likely not a mere knee-jerk reaction if one takes into account all the current documentation as best as one can. The knee-jerk reaction rather seems to be coming from those who immediately charge a cancellation of the kind under consideration as “woke” in character.

  2. Like Robin, I guess I don’t understand the “woke”-ness of Kohl’s position. Usually wokeness has to do with gay/trans rights, BLM, or some kind of alleged social justice infraction. What Lindell is accused of is trying to overthrow the country. Sort of different.

Now, who knows if the allegations are true??? That’s a different story.

    1. I don’t think of wokeness as only having to do with gay/trans stuff at all. I think of it primarily as a rush to severe judgment when something makes the woke upset. Sort of a hair-triggered hissy fit.

That fault is not unique to the woke, but they have perfected it.

      1. I think that hair-triggered hissy fits, to the point of violent outbursts, are definitely taken to the extremest extreme by the supporters of Trump.
