Politics as vengeance

Somebody recently warned against putting Trump in the White House again because he’d use his position to go after all his enemies and settle scores.

I think that’s very likely, and a good argument. We don’t need that sort of nonsense.

But … is it all that different from what’s happening now?

  1. The pro-Trump side is doing something similar — we have to put Trump in the White House to make up for what was “stolen” from us. Some of them insist on this to the point of not caring what he would do there, we just have to “make it right.” As though presidential elections are for settling scores rather than determining who will be the world’s most powerful government executive.

  2. I agree. Once someone is elected president, they should be able to commit any crime with impunity. That’s what the founders intended.

    1. Sounds like what presidential candidate Pence indicated. He said… “let me be clear, no one is above the law”. Yet, when asked if there was evidence of the former President committing a crime should he be prosecuted…he said… “I would just hope there would be a way for them to move forward without the dramatic, divisive step of indicting a former president”.

Funny thing…the former president seemed to express a very different point of view… https://youtu.be/ThCMjd7irLM

      1. “Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!” … “crooked Hillary…”

At the moment, it appears what orange bozo has done dwarfs anything Hillary did both in extent and intent.

        1. What’s interesting is the “lock her up” crowd “praised” the FBI for conducting a documents investigation relative to Hillary. Not so much, when it comes to Trump…why?

Now that the former president has been indicted they are saying that the “rule of law” is being selectively applied. Yet, is that so? In actuality, there were three distinct investigations of Hillary and none of them found evidence that would warrant indictment. Interestingly enough…one of those investigations was conducted by the Trump Administrationand they reported, “no persuasive evidence of systemic, deliberate mishandling of classified information”.

So, it seems Hillary was presumed “guilty” (lock her up before due process could be applied) until proven innocent (which is still a question). Yet, with Trump, they didn’t even want an investigation…even with evidence of potential criminality. This, from the alleged “rule of law” patriots.

    2. Here’s the thing. It’s consistently the system out to get Trump and he’s consistently the persecuted victim that’s culpable for nothing. They defend him even when his lies and misdeeds have been exposed. They even developed a fake syndrome in an attempt to discredit anyone who’d dare hold him accountable. The RARE moments they admit to some “flaw”, they engage in “whataboutism” to excess. What drives such behavior and allegiance? Could it be the dreaded “Pied Piper Syndrome”?

  3. QUOTE But … is it all that different from what’s happening now?

Is that a serious question? If so, what do you think is happening now?
