By now you’ve probably seen footage of an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin.
Putin is claiming this was an assassination attempt by Ukraine. That’s certainly one possibility, although it seems it might qualify as the lamest assassination attempt ever in history.
It could be a false flag operation by Russia. It could be Russian separatists. It could be a weird mistake, or … I suppose it could even be AI (although I seriously doubt that).
Who do you think did it, and will this escalate the conflict?
Based on what I’ve seen…it has all the earmarks of a Russian false flag operation. This would give them a “legitimate” reason to escalate the conflict, “if” the choose to do so.
CNBC is reporting that it was likely staged.

How does one “escalate” a conflict consisting from its beginning of trying to crush another country by all means necessary, and why would Russia care about “legitimate” reasons?
That said, I have no idea who did it and am entirely willing to believe it was Russian. This whole thing is just a mess.
Unfortunately, one way to escalate would be to use battlefield nukes. I also suspect they have other (non-nuclear) bombing options they haven’t used yet.
Easy, you lie on your enemy and then strike harder (using even more aggressive means…inclusive of nuclear weapons).
It did no real damage. It was something Russian. Russian has stepped up its attack on Kiev which is far from the front lines now. The attacks on Kiev are just attacks on civilians–terrorism is what we would usually call it.
Having a staged attack by your enemy on your homeland might be a way to try and rallly the people around you. It’s hard to say what Putin’s supporot is for this war. Totally depends on the sources and their biases unfortunately. However, people are more likely to support a war after they’ve been attacked versus a totally unnecessary grab for power which is mostly aimed at civilians.
