I’ve seen news reports that Clarence Thomas has a billionaire friend who has been taking him on luxury trips. The implication is that this compromises Thomas’ ability to be an impartial judge.
It might. I don’t know. I won’t prejudge that issue.
But I will make a prediction. I’ll bet that this is quite common — that many of the justices do the same thing, but the media is harping on Thomas because they don’t like him.
I’m not in any way trying to excuse or belittle corruption. I believe we need new anti-corruption measures to investigate everyone with political power.
At the same time, there’s a recognizable pattern to these sorts of stories. It will eventually come out that justices on both sides do this.
IDK. I was a civil servant. We had to be careful of accepting anything from government contractors. But, there are different rules for us peasants.
I expect there is a ton of corruption around…but this seems pretty egregious. No doubt he catches heat because the media doesn’t like him.
One of the guys he pals around with donated $500k to the lobbying group Ginni Thomas works for–and the lobbying group pays her $120k salary. Who knows if she even does anything for the money? (I mean, besides having Clarence’s ear and umm humm?)
Can we agree that “Harlan Crow” could be a name right out of a Grisham novel? (Heard that from an RC lawyer/priest on Elon’s propaganda channel)
I haven’t read enough Grisham to say, but it is a cool name.
Starting at about 17:00, this interview discusses the issue.

Is it possible that more than one thing can be true at a time? Let’s say the media doesn’t like him…that’s fair. Yet, couldn’t they also be right that this activity is highly suspicious and needs to be investigated?

Even if it’s commonplace, that doesn’t diminish Thomas’ potential culpability. They’d all be suspect and should be treated as such. Could it be that it’s time for the SCOTUS to be accountable to some other authority? After all, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
