The Superbowl halftime was stupid. I’d much rather watch an old-school punt, pass and kick contest.

A public record of some of my thoughts. Feel free to comment, but don't expect me to respond.

Wasn’t my cup of tea at all. At all.
But, others liked it. You’re just old. LOL
Some of my son’s friends liked it.
I didn’t think it was family friendly with all the female dancers shaking their asses in my face. I saw part of it–it was on the whole time, but I was pre-occupied. I was half listening. All the music was tape as far as I could tell. Maybe some vocals were live, but some didn’t seem to be at times. They billed this as the biggest night of music for the year, and I’m thinking that it was the biggest night for dancing and lip syncing.
Big thing I saw on Twitter was about Eminem taking a knee. Basically, ~Eminem take a knee in defiance of NFL asking him not to.~
Saw even blue check marks tweeting that. Some blue check mark this morning said, “it is reported….(blah blah blah about Eminem).” I responded/retweeted that this is the problem with journalism. They think a Twitter rumor is something being “reported”. I wanted to know, 1) Was Eminem praying or was he taking a BLM knee? (in my eyes, the former) 2) Did the NFL really ask him not too?
Absolutely no citations or quotes of course.
Some folks noticed that in was only Eminem who took a knee, and that the other performers (all black) were corporate sellouts and didn’t do it as well. (Well, we don’t even know if NFL asked them or anything like that).
Trying to satisfy the musical taste all viewers is a fool’s errand…highly unlikely that will ever happen.
Given that, it seems generally NFL players tweeted positive comments, social media was brimming with praise, celebrities seemed pleased, some media outlets were hailing the novelty of it. Given that, it seems a reasonable amount of the viewing audience was satisfied.
I confess I didn’t understand many of the lyrics of the songs performed. But, I could see how some might be entertained. But, this is America and it’s likely a good thing that the halftime show features different musical genres and reflects the varied taste within the country. I’ll wait to see if they will feature “inspirational/spiritual” music/performers. I suspect it will be a VERY long wait! 🙂
I read an interesting perspective about the half-time show, addressing those who took issue with those selected to perform…
“On this stage, you have a tech billionaire, a music legend, 3 box office hit actors, a football coach who has sent over 3o kids to college, an academy award winner and a combined 32 Grammy winners (more than twice that in nominations). On top of that, every single artist on that stage came from nothing and survived through violence, poverty and addiction. What you’re literally looking at is the American dream.”
The performers may have been geniuses and saints, but what they performed was horrible.
I haven’t liked much pop music since the mid 70s. I just figure that the older generation will always bitch and moan about the music of the younger people, as I remember the older folks when I was a teenager saying that Pink Floyd was just a big bunch of noise.
QUOTE: The performers may have been geniuses and saints, but what they performed was horrible.
According to you. Yet, to others, they thought it was good and some called it the “best half-time show ever”. Per ratings, the show averaged 103.4 million viewers, up over last year 96.7 million. NBC’s YouTube posting has garnered over 44 million views thus far. Some unscientific polls have a fairly even split between like and dislike (no surprise in our current environment).
As I said previously, trying to satisfy the musical tastes all viewers is a fool’s errand…highly unlikely that will ever happen. I think it’s a fairly safe bet that eventually something will be to your taste and others will be saying…“what they performed was horrible.”
