The conservative mindset and climate change

Watch out! We only have five minutes left before global calamity!

Ten minutes later …. Beware, the clock is running out! We only have 20 seconds before we’re all dead.

An hour later …. It’s worse than we thought! If we don’t do something in the next ten minutes, everyone will die.

The conservative (or should I say, adult) mindset reacts to this sort of thing as follows.

  • You’re exaggerating.
  • If there is a problem, sure, we should fix it.
  • Let’s wait and see.

It’s been decades now, and while there have been some changes, it’s been manageable. We don’t need to turn the world over to people who are prone to hyperventilate.

Agreed. Conservatives shouldn’t capitulate to the rantings of Chicken Little. Yet, they shouldn’t be so myopic to miss that there just might be a Foxy Loxy to contend with. So, maybe a good disposition is to listen but verify before taking action or dismissing.
