I just read China Owes The World $35 Trillion If Coronavirus Lab Leak Is True, which sounds as if it’s saying China is responsible for the virus and should pay for damages.
I am not a fan of communist China, but I think that’s a little silly.
My understanding is that the research that was going on in Wuhan was international. Other countries — including the U.S. — were involved.
However, China should still pay a price for their coverup and disinformation campaigns, and that price should be a collective “from now on, we won’t believe anything you say” from the entire world.
That seems a lot more fitting than a bill that China would never pay anyway.
There is simply too much trade with China to pursue such a policy. Think of another strategy, most like with the use of international mechanisms. But then again, lots of conservatives were telling me before that the UN is a liberal thing.

Agreed! Yet, if the US participated in this, wouldn’t it be considered surrendering to “globalism” by some conservatives. That was an anathema for them and “nationalism” was the way to go!
I believe “globalism” refers more to world-wide systems of government than to nations cooperatively putting pressure on bad actors.
Yeah, I use to think that too. But, after listening to some conservatives, it appears the definition of “globalism” has shifted to mean the US shouldn’t participate in international alliances (e.g., NATO, UN, Paris Climate Agreement, WHO, etc.).
