  1. In the older terminology she is what they would have called an “uppety n***.”

    1. That’s ridiculous. She’s a pampered princess who’s upset because there’s a pea under her cushion.

      1. Not ridiculous at all. The narrative at play here is that a black person who receives a high position should be boundlessly grateful. Their only legitimate response to degradation is “yes, massa.”

        1. Your powers are amazing. Please describe how the narrative would be different if she was 100% black? Or if she was white, Indian, Chinese, a Native American, a Native Australian ….

I’m sure there are some (few) people who are upset that a not 100% white person is now in the royal family, but it is ridiculous — whether you like it or not — for you to assume that any criticism of her has to do with race.

And BTW, are you guilty of cultural appropriation? You’re using a phrase from the American slave experience and pasting it on top of an English issue.

          1. I really don’t care if some English racist might not like such appropriation. Yes, she is very light skinned, but there was concern about her offspring being darker. Textbook racism, plain and simple. I think that there are actually quite a lot of people over there (and state-side as well) who regard her as an “uppety n***,” but most aren’t gonna come out say it. Racism usually works on a covert level.

            1. If she were white and this absurdly lacking in proportion about the difficulties of her life while being incredibly privileged, she would still deserve this mockery. She’s the kind of person who can call up Oprah Winfrey and get on TV just for the asking in order to complain about her mean in-laws. You don’t think there’s something ridiculous about that, that would be the case no matter what her race?

It seems like your response is just to assume that all the people who are put off by an incredibly wealthy woman with a posh life thinking that her personal family troubles are the subject of international news are just stupid hillbillies, so I guess bigoted attitudes cut in multiple directions.

    2. I keep hearing the same response: She is on easy street. So what if she gets treated as inferior to the rest of the royals? The little black princess should just knuckle under and be grateful for what she does get, which is far more than what the rest of us get.

          1. Unbelievable how freaking partisan this is. It’s as if we must believe or not believe what happened to some royals based on political allegiances. I thought we were gd Americans…and left that royalty stuff behind us.

“Fake news! Fake news! Fake news!”

“Oh, I’m sure it’s true about that black b*tch. Fox says it’s true. Piers says it’s true.”

            1. Is this partisan? Piers Morgan doesn’t strike me as a partisan conservative.

Maybe it’s partisan in this respect — whether you tend to believe or tend to doubt accusations of racism.

              1. Well, Piers has been a Trump supporter more or less and indentifies as a Conservative as far as Brit politics goes. But, what I mean by partisan is basically that this has gone tribal. I see Repugs hating on the ex-duchess and Dems loving on her on social media. It doesn’t seem to matter the truth, just that people think the ex-duchess is on their side or the other side.

              2. I have been watching excerpts of Good Morning Britain for quite a while and observed that Piers is actually right-leaning on a lot of issues, in spite of the fact that he made the opposite impression when he was on American TV. (I sometimes agree with him when he opposes PETA, the PC movement, and a lot of other ridiculous causes from the left, although I hate the way he talks over the female co-host.) His pro-Royalism has especially come through quite clearly in his hatred of the little black princess. He left the show when a guest pointed out that Meghan was dating him and cut him off in favor of Harry. This is where his bias comes into the picture, aside from the bias that naturally comes with an undying belief in white supremacy.

  2. I imagine there are lots of women red and yellow, black and white who would like to be so oppressed.

If there is one saying that should go on my dad’s tombstone, it’s: “Call me whatever you want. Just don’t call me late for dinner.”

I watched < 5 mins. I was able to ascertain that this is the thing you go to family counseling for…not on Oprah. I have been seeing pushback on Twitter that in reality, the racism in Europe is worse than in the US. IDK if it's the racism concerning treatment vs the racism that says "x race" really is inferior to whites and you sure as hell wouldn't want offspring with "x".

Give me MJ, Lebron's, or Tiger's money and call me whatever prejorative the F you want to call me.

  3. I’ll be honest– I don’t believe Markle. I’m not a psychic, or particularly good at reading people, and my disdain for a lot of the royals is on record (I’d believe almost anything of Philip, for example, who’s a complete jerk, and there’s a fair chance Andrew should be behind bars.)

But I’m getting the same feeling I got when I heard about Smollett, and about the hijab attack here in the True North (a young girl claimed she was attacked by a man trying to cut off her hijab with scissors, and if you can’t guess how that story turned out you may be a philosopher), and so on. The Smith College case where a student decided she had gotten in trouble for eating while black also comes to mind, a case which destroyed the lives of many innocent people all because a mean-spirited person insisted on interpreting events through her hateful lens.

Nobody likes a spoiled princess. But in These Crazy Times there are get-out-of-jail-free cards you can play, ones for which no evidence is required, which is a very unhealthy incentive structure. And so I’m not sure she didn’t decide to play it.
