Maybe I’m confusing him with somebody else, but I’m having a slightly weird feeling agreeing with Glenn Greenwald.

The False and Exaggerated Claims Still Being Spread About the Capitol Riot

The guys on Instapundit have a running joke about unexpected agreement with people, and they applied it to him too: “We’ve descended into some sort of bizarre hell-world in which Glenn Greenwald is a voice of sanity.”
As time has gone on and more footage and information has come out, it’s clear there were many lies (from Fox News and conservative pundits) about the January 6 riot.
Funny how current Republican rhetoric (some might say lies) focuses on…
Senator Ron Johnson- “By and large, it was peaceful protest, except for there were a number of people, basically agitators that whipped the crowd and breached the Capitol. That’s really the truth of what’s happening here.”
Republican Voters -Monmouth University Poll- 47% of Republican voters say “legitimate protest” is an “appropriate term for the U.S. Capitol incident on January 6.
Yet, it wasn’t always that way…
House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy- Let me be clear: Last week’s violent attack on the Capitol was undemocratic, un-American and criminal…And make no mistake: Those who are responsible for Wednesday’s chaos will be brought to justice…The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell- January 6th was a disgrace… American citizens attacked their own government. They used terrorism to try to stop a specific piece of democratic business they did not like… Fellow Americans beat and bloodied our own police. They stormed the Senate floor. They tried to hunt down the Speaker of the House. They built a gallows and chanted about murdering the Vice President… They did this because they had been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth — because he was angry he’d lost an election.
So, more lies and deception about January 6 have been recently revealed. Why am I not surprised?
Republican congressional leaders raised the following in a national press conference…
Jim Banks:“Was Speaker Pelosi involved in the decision to delay a National Guard assistance on January 6? Those are serious and real questions that this committee refuses to even ask.”
Steve Scalise: “Jim Banks just asked some serious questions that should be answered by the January 6 commission but they’re not.”
Well, video footage was taken during critical behind-the-scenes moments when the MAGA mob rioted and attacked on the US Capitol Building. Guess what it illustrated? Not only were Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell and Pence working feverishly, in a bi-partisan manner, to get the National Guard and other assistance but the video clearly illustrated that Steve Scalise was standing quietly watching the entire effort. Hmm…so why would Scalise and other Republican leaders call for information they clearly already have and present it to the public as if there was a legitimate question of Speaker Pelosi’s involvement.
That said, I don’t give a flying fig about Pelosi or Democrats…public scrutiny and criticism is all a part of price one has to pay to be in political leadership. Yet, for Republican leaders, which are entrusted to work in good faith on behalf of the American people, to do this illustrates just how corruptly they can behave. Will Scalise, Republican leadership and conservative media address this video revelation??? Will the Republican base even care about this behavior??? I’ll wait.
Kinda reminds me of the public statements of Josh Hawley diminishing the actions of the mob on January 6 but later we see video of him running for his life. Same with Nancy Mace…it was no big deal but then there’s interviews of her declaring how she was scared for her life. There are others, but it just illustrates just how deceptive these people can be. No surprise, all politicians tend to be but this stuff takes it to another level.
You missed the significance of that story. The question about Pelosi involved a decision made before the riot. Frantic calls to get help after they’d already failed to do their job are not relevant.
Nope, I sure didn’t…because the questions raised by Jim Banks and endorsed by Steve Scalise were relative to both time frames. As well, the sworn Senate testimony of ex-chief Sund provided insights that refuted it all. You may want read his sworn testimony…it’s rather interesting and could provide insights you missed.
