What do the schools have to do before parents say “enough”? Seriously. What is the red line? I’m completely horrified at the moral cowardice of parents.

It will be a while before it hits OK. It’s crazy that schools need permission to give a kid a Tylenol for a headache but can do this without informing the parents.

Toward the end of our time of our kids being in public high school (2019) it was already getting pretty bad, to the point where we wouldn’t have made the same choice again. But it has gotten so much worse in four years; it’s hard to fathom.
When I was in school, LGBTQ+ people were called perverts, and there was no limit to expressing contempt for them: “I’ll kick your ass, faggot!” Even an adult at that time thought that was a legitimate attitude. It is refreshing to hear that kids are being taught to treat such people with respect.
Man, willful ignorance is a heckuva drug.

Imagine if a teacher was a christian or muslim or some other religion and the school was secretly trying to convert the child and keeping all of that hidden from the parents. Then the kid comes home and tells the parents that he wants to get baptized or do whatever muslims do. Parent asks when did you decide this? Well me and Mr. x and Mrs. y at school have taught me and I’m converting and there isn’t a damn thing you can say about it.
Or imagine teachers are Q-nuts and they convert kid to that ideology and he says, hey dad, let’s go down to the pizzeria and kill us some pedos and register to vote as Repugs…
Are we back to that old scare?: “They’re trying to turn our kids into faggots!” If so, surely there isn’t any legitimate concern about gay people going on a killing rampage as is the case with various fanatics.
No, it’s fucking worse. Kid says, “Boy says think I might be a girl.” Parents would say, “hang on a second, let’s talk about it,” and they’d think, it’s probably just a phase…like when he wanted to be a fireman, then a police man, etc.
School, OTOH, says to Chistopher, “Ok, Christine, you really are a girl. We can supply dresses for you to wear, etc…” Parents are totally unaware, then kid says he wants to go on female hormones and have his dick cut off.
Anybody who thinks that is ok is 1) fucking trash, 2) fucking crazy. Yeah, you have a cock, balls, XY chromosomes, but you are really a girl…. sure… let’s affirm that.

Indeed, it is refreshing and it should have happened long ago…especially in a society that is comprised of people with many types of differences.
That said, there is a nuance that has to be understood and respected by people on all sides of the issue. One can respect/tolerate another perspective but they don’t have to agree with it. Attempting to use the educational system to “force” or “indoctrinate” on any side of the issue is a bridge too far…especially when parents are told they have no authority in determining what their children are being taught.
