Gov. Abbott finally shows some spine

I have not been impressed with Gov. Greg Abbott. He has been far too soft on the border problem.

But he’s finally showing some spunk.

Governor Abbott Directs Texas to Send Illegal Migrants to D.C. on Charter Buses

“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants to Washington, D.C.”

I hope other states take similar measures.

  1. That doesn’t seem to be such an original idea. Trump threatened to send migrants to sanctuary cities during his tenure. The real question is…does what Abbott or Trump proposed resolve the problem? If so, then that’s to be celebrated. If not, then it’s just a political stunt.

    1. It’s completely a political stunt, because that’s one of the few options left to him. The court has (correctly) said that immigration is a federal issue. But if the federal government refuses to enforce the rules, what’s a state to do? Political stunts is one option, although I would like them to pursue others.

      1. QUOTE: But if the federal government refuses to enforce the rules, what’s a state to do?

They continue to negotiate with the federal government to see if there’s solution that’s agreeable to both. As well, they vote to attempt put people in charge in the federal government that can make appropriate change.

Political stunts do nothing to resolve problems and shouldn’t be encouraged. When politicians (in any party) feel that all they need to do is a stunt to get people’s vote…that’s all that’s going to happen.

      2. Dealing with Republicans nowadays is like playing chess with someone who disputes the rules whenever the game is not going her way, and who will overturn the board if the dispute is not settled in her favor. They see such a style of playing as “backbone.”

        1. Democrats are no where near flawless. Stunts like what AOC did at the Met Gala are puerile and accomplish little. Yet, there’s a great amount of projection and playing the victim with some factions within the Republican Party these days. I use to enjoy listening and reading some conservative resources but as of late it’s whine, whine, whine about liberals (much of what conservatives do too but it’s right when they do it). Too exhausting…I had to stop. It’s as if their only purpose is to complain about and own the libs. Conservative SE Cupp seems to have a good take on this dynamic in her recent commentary…

          1. Just imagine the Republicans keeping their stunts on the level of AOC’s! I am sure we could all easily handle MTG attending a gala event where she would wear a a gown with a slogan such as “trickle down” written on it. It is the hostile and belligerent character of their stunts that has all reasonable people on edge. SE Cupp is indeed one of the reasonable Republicans. Or did she leave the party?

            1. As far as I know, SE Cupp is still a Republican. I wish we could return to the days when the disagreements were policy-based. The crazy antics, stunts, histrionics and incessant whining doesn’t do anything to improve the country. Yet, people LOVE that. I suspect that’s the reason more politicians do it. Just look at all the crap we see on campaign ads. Instead of denouncing such, people are craving more. Political theater at its worst.

  2. So, let’s see…in Abbott’s latest attempt to “own the Libs”… Texans, who support Abbott’s consistent anti-immigrant rhetoric, involuntarily paid to make an asylum-seeking family’s life a little better by giving them a free, all expense paid bus trip to DC. The irony of it all…you can’t make this stuff up!
