Bill Maher has been listening to P&C and reading “Eggs are Expensive, Sperm is Cheap”
Or so it seems from this video.
Warning: it’s crude.

I totally love it when magazines get to define what is sexy!
Not that I agree with this perspective…but it might help explain some of the cultural dynamic we see.
If men are being told, by the gatekeepers of sex, that they can’t have it because they are too “toxic”, what are men who want sex likley to do?…adapt! It might be against their instincts but if it gets them what they want, they might adapt to what women “say” they want. Yet, what a suprise when they discover that women “say” they want one thing (sensitivity) but “really” want something else (assertiveness). Can’t totally blame men for being confused about their roles and the rules of the game…if they are constantly being changed by women.
I think ordinary women and men are just following what they’re told by the people who lead the culture — TV, movies, music, influencers on social media, etc. What’s toxic is not masculinity, but our popular culture.
It would be interesting to see surveys on some of these points. E.g., ask a lot of men what they think women want in a man.

The survey polled more than 64,000 people in 180 countries, asking them about their ideal match — from religious or political preferences to the importance of height. Almost 90% of the women rank kindness highest among desirable qualities, followed closely by supportivenessat 86.5%. Intelligence received about 72% of the vote; level of education had 64.5%; and rounding out the Top 5 is confidence, with a little over 60%.
This is the stuff women “say” they want. Yet, in practice, if a man “really” acted this way…he would likely be friend-zoned, possibly thought to be weak. I don’t mean to be presumptuous but having observed women for many year…I’d suggest what they “really” want are different masculine characteristics.
And then there’s the X factor, that mysterious quality that will take a woman to another place.
I heard someone put it this way. Women are not attracted to kindness, but they want the men they find attractive to be kind.
David Buss seems to be peeking in on your book too. The results from his research about sexual conflict in human mating is interesting.
