I remember first hearing about it on NPR, and immediately thinking, “Wait, people running around Chicago at 2 am in subzero weather just happen to attack a famous black gay actor who just happens to be out walking the streets at that time, and the perps are yelling ‘This is MAGA country!'”?!?! It didn’t smell right from the beginning.

Agreed! Given the content of the allegation, red flags should have popped up immediately. Yet, the power of misguided belief is an interesting thing. Unfortunately, it’s a fairly common occurrence these days. At times, it even causes those in very powerful positions to stretch credulity.
It reminds me of the reaction to Sidney Powell’s farcical election claims and the impending release of the mythical Kraken. Despite the outrageous nature of her claims, they got support from a sizable swath of the electorate, media, members of Congress and even the former President. In fact, some reports alleged there was discussion within the White House about appointing Powell as a Special Counsel. Some claimed Powell would be very stupid to make such claims if she couldn’t prove them. If fact, they indicated that a competent, experienced lawyer like Powell had been around the block a time or two, and would know better than to fall for crazy theories and bad evidence. Yet, I suppose it fit the narrative, so she was given the benefit of the doubt.
Furthermore, despite being exposed as a liar and lunatic, there are still those who believe in Powell’s claims. They’ve even been the impetus for numerous failed court cases, “stop the steal” campaigns and futile election recounts…which outcomes further erode her claims. Still…they believe. The amazing power of misguided belief!
Greg and gang keep throwing out these little mistakes that Biden makes, but we’re still waiting for something comparable to the Big Lie that Trump was pushing.
In actuality, this dynamic happens on all sides of the political spectrum. So, it should be called out, when it occurs…no matter who’s at fault. Yet, what’s fascinating, it’s typically the opposition’s errors that are highlighted…despite glaring ones of the same ilk within the plaintiff’s own turf.
Granted. But we also need to distinguish between occasional mistakes, even when they are the result of certain predispositions, and persistent and pernicious false narratives on a grand scale.
Indeed. There are lapses in judgment and then there’s lunacy.
Pretty phony but obvious from the beginning…
Like saying gas prices are high because Biden shutdown the Keystone pipeline? Gee where have I heard that?
