I viewed the esteemed gentleman’s speech very much like you characterized the focus on “unity” (in a different post). Of course, what he says makes sense and what should be aspired to. Yet, don’t we need more than a sound bite to determine if the gentleman’s claims are accurate? Shouldn’t we be digging deeper? Don’t we need more than one side of the story?
As I listened, a number of question came to mind. What policies are being debated? Do the proposed policies contain any inherit bias (unintentional or intentional)? Do the accusations being waged have any basis in fact? Is this speech a reasonable reaction to wokeness run amok or is there more? Having such “righteous indignation” isn’t enough to tell us if that passion is appropriate or misplaced. Sometimes, a passionate response is valid and necessary. Other times, it can be a defensive tactic and red herring…causing the listener to ask, “doth thou protest too much?”
So, it was a great, well-spoken and passionate speech. Yet, unless there is more information about what’s actually being debated and the merits of both sides, I wouldn’t say it tells us very much. I suspect the other side had representatives who had just as passionate presentations. Would their perspective be valid based on a sound bite of their impassioned pleas? I’d suggest we have to listen beyond the sound bites and platitudes and see the full scope of the matter. Then we can appropriately assess if what we are seeing is indeed courageous representation or a defensive tactic.
A lot of Dems are no doubt tired of being called “leftists,” “unpatriotic,” or “woke” in an undisguised pejorative sense if they disagree with Republicans and especially with Trump.
Per your point, recently a Democrat congresswoman claimed a Republican Rep. poked her and told her to ‘Kiss My A**’.

Despite hearing the guy apologized, I still wanted to understand the context versus relying on the sensational headline. Unfortunately, we live in a sound bite society where we too frequently react to partial information that adds to our confirmation bias.
Or even “communists.”
And aren’t we all sick and tired of Republicans calling some of their own “Rinos”?
