Pigweed and I had fun with this one: What’s Up with Furries?
We both assumed we’d be negative about it, but after looking into it, we were … not quite supportive, but far less negative.
A public record of some of my thoughts. Feel free to comment, but don't expect me to respond.

You boys influenced me on that one as well. I still don’t think it’s high up on the list of healthy ways to deal with whatever they’re looking for, but it’s definitely less sick/creepy than I had thought.
Yeah. It’s not like I’m going to celebrate it. But it’s not the worst thing a kid can get into either.
Haven’t heard the show yet, and don’t know any furries AFAIK, so I’ll speak from my ignorance for the moment and listen to be informed.
In my head I guess I thought of it as live-action roleplay like the Society for Creative Anachronism but for people who don’t like the High Middle Ages but do like animals. Or like people who get together to roleplay as vampires or werewolves or whatever and go heavy into the cosplay side of it (I’m thinking particularly of Vampire: the Masquerade, which had a big fan club for a while.)
Renaissance fairs are the sorts of things that I think are fun to visit, but I can’t see myself attending a weekly SCA meeting.. I used to use a monk costume I made every year when I had to go to a Halloween party, and I’ve been known to wear a kilt on formal occasions, but that’s about it for dress-up.
There are probably people who get unhealthily obsessed with stuff, and ask they be called Viscount Something-or-other by their real-life friends, or who actually drink blood at their coven meetings, or whatever the vampire equivalent of coven is, but I’ve no idea how representative that is.
I might not be the best reference though! Whether Vulcans or elves, I’ve always thought it was cute when girls had pointy ears. I mean, we’ve got Saavik (both of ’em), Selar, and T’Pol on the ST side. And Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel?..
.. what were we talking about again?
