Cancel culture is real

I’ve been reluctant to share this publicly, but … here goes.

I got canceled at work.

One of my co-workers found a couple Pigweed and Crowhill videos that he didn’t agree with. He completely misrepresented what we said and accused us of displaying “white privilege” and being racists, bigots and homophobes. He sent his accusations in an email to the entire office, and caused quite a stir. The mob formed against me, and the company fired me — despite the fact that they didn’t believe the accusations.

There’s more to it than that, of course, but it’s quite a mess and … I shouldn’t say too much.

I’ve decided to post this because, honestly, I could use some help. I need to find some work.

This site has a description of my professional experience and what I’m good at. If you know of any opportunities — contract work or full-time — please let me know.

  1. That sucks. It’s total bullshit they can do something like that. I remember what happened with Damore and thinking it was bullshit too. We disagree on many things, but damn, people should be allowed to say what they want on their own time.

YesterdayI got invited to a mandatory HR meeting (today, noon CDT) of which part some of the title is “Rebalancing” the workforce. Some of our QA and support people, who are no longer with us, were invited to a similar meeting a few months ago. Probably going to be offered an attractive “voluntary” separation and if I don’t take it, then I get on the list for involuntary separation. “Rebalancing” means they replace a US worker with one, two, or three from India or Viet Nam.

I was going to leave two years ago…had a job offer in hand. Boss literally begged me to stay, and we are friends, I think, so I stayed. Probably stupid move.

This cancel culture is bullshit. It’s why I’m anonymous on Twitter and basically post nothing political on FB except for a very occasional anti-Trump diatribe–very occasional. Really, I don’t want to see anything political on FB. Just want to see pictures of trips, kids/grandkids, weddings, and anniversaries. I’ve posted on Twitter that I think it is wrong for Trans “women” to compete in sports against biological women. The company HQ is in Palo Alto. Imagine what would happen if some Trans activist took offense and contacted HR. I’d be creating an unsafe “workspace” (in my work from home office).

    1. What continues to mystify me about this is the complete lack of forethought and reflection.

I’m in blue Maryland, so the mob is most likely to be incited by conservative opinions. But in red Oklahoma, the mob is more likely to be incited by liberal opinions.

Do we want an environment where liberals can’t work in Oklahoma and conservatives can’t work in Maryland?

      That’s crazy.

    1. Hard to say. I got in trouble at another job because of cancel culture, but I can’t say for certain that I was let go for that reason.

It’s obvious that the safe route is to be quiet and let the Nazis win. But I’m not going to do that.
