Police have been through Hell recently. They’re vilified. They’re attacked from all sides. They’re putting their lives on the line for people who hate them.
It can’t last.
Police are going to start quitting. What will we do then?

We’ll reinvent the police, of course. Only they’ll be informally-arranged militias, untrusting of outsiders, and giving zero cares for due process. With a new name, like Safety Patrols, or maybe Safety Committees. Who knows, maybe even Committees of Public Safety..
Reynolds always likes to point out that the police ultimately aren’t there to protect us from criminals, but to protect criminals from us. If that bargain breaks down, well, lock and load.
It’s hard to believe how short-sighted people are. We’re going to get rid of people who are trained, who have rules, who have a culture of how to police, and we’re going to replace them with a mob.
It reminds me a little of a comment I read somewhere that what we’re seeing in the riots is born out of the pagan belief that order arises spontaneously out of chaos. If they burn down the current system, somehow, magically, a new order will appear.
