Maybe we need a male president and a female president to represent everybody

by Greg Krehbiel on 27 September 2017

I saw a headline that Michelle Obama is saying women who didn’t vote for Hillary voted against their own interests, or something like that. I am so uninterested that I didn’t even search to hear what she has to say. I’ll just mentally lump it in with all the other “I’m with her” nonsense about voting for Hillary because she’s a woman.

Is that the way elections should go from now on? All the men vote for the male candidate, and all the women vote for the female candidate?

No, of course not, because it’s acceptable to say that women should vote for a woman because she’s a woman, but it’s unacceptable to say that a man should vote for a man because he’s a man.

This stuff is so tiring. I need to learn to tune it out entirely.

Yeah, there’s only one way to read it…

    Not.

Could be that she believes the policies of Trump are against the best interests of women. I wonder if Jared Kushner voted against her interests?

So, you believe the media got it right in this instance, eh? Don’t you think you should understand the context before you criticize? Just sayin’.

Seriously? I said I didn’t look it up. Therefore I have no idea if the headline was right or not. The point is that I’m sick of the meme. It comes up quite often, and the implication is that women should vote a certain way because they’re women. It doesn’t matter what Michelle said.
