I guess I’m a racist

by Greg Krehbiel on 28 November 2017

I play flag football with some friends from time to time. One day, one of my friends brought along his daughter, who was wearing some leather boots with frills. Kinda like these. Double Fringe Tramper Boot

I couldn’t remember her name, so I called her Pocahontas.

Mea maxima culpa.

One time, when I was living in the Netherlands, some Dutch guy called me Yankee Doodle. I didn’t particularly like it.

That’s because you grew up in the south. 🙂

My slave also didn’t like it when that guy kept calling him Sambo.

Admitting it is always the first step. 🙂

Elizabeth Wareen did knowingly and falsely claim to be a Native American, which helped her get a job a Harvard Law. If it is racist to call her Pocahontas, maybe people should just be more straightforward and call her a fraud.

@RR, if Elizabeth Warren is guilty of lying about her heritage then she should be held accountable. Yet, this doesn’t seem as clear cut as the one who dubbed her Pocahontas would like the public to believe. https://www.snopes.com/politics/politicians/warren.asp

That said, I find it rich that Trump consistently disparages Warren in this manner when he’s been guilty of similar behavior. He perpetuated a lie in his book “The Art of the Deal” about his father’s family heritage. The Trump’s deliberately hid their background to gain competitive advantage in their business. As well, who can forget Trump was an ardent purveyor of the “birther” lie…continuing it long after it was fact-checked. http://www.msnbc.com/all-in/watch/the-trump-family-lied-about-their-german-heritage-1105584195642

So, if Trump wants to go after Warren for this then he needs to hold himself accountable too. Otherwise, he should take his nickel out of that dollar because he has NO credibility on that matter. Or, like Warren, maybe it’s more straightforward for people to call him a fraud.

    William,

David French paints a different picture about Warren:

    http://www.nationalreview.com/article/454121/elizabeth-warren-native-american-heritage-harvard-fraud

In the video you posted, Warren denies that used a claim of Native American Heritage to land her job at Harvard. However, she does say that she claimed Native American Heritage-something that later was disproved. Given that, and together with French’s article, I’m inclined to still take a dim view of Warren on this matter.

Oh, and I agree that Trump isn’t a credible figure. But he isn’t the only one mocking Warren for her Native American heritage claims.

RR, I’m not a Warren fan, so I don’t have a dog in this race. As I said previously, if she’s guilty, she needs to be held accountable. That said, I don’t see where the article you referenced categorically proved she doesn’t have some Native American heritage. It still seems to be an open question. That said, she’s a politician. Therefore, like many, if her lips are moving, then there’s likely some lies being spewed.

I’m aware Trump isn’t the only voice mocking Warren. Yet, he was the only one standing in the Oval Office at an official WH ceremony honoring Native Americans, representing the country as President, while uttering these “comments”. What makes this particularly rich is that he got a “two-fer”. He not only made insensitive remarks (which seems to have insulted the very community he was honoring) but pointed the finger at a political opponent for things he and his family have been guilty of doing. You can’t make this stuff up.

Finally, if Trump wishes to hold Warren accountable, it’s fair game. Yet, since he has mud on his side of the fence, do you think he will hold himself accountable too? Don’t hold your breath! If lying makes Warren a fraud…guess who else is one too?
