Good enough really is good enough

by Greg Krehbiel on 2 January 2018

As this is a traditional time to re-evaluate your life, your goals and your priorities, I thought I would mention a couple productivity lessons I’ve learned over the years, and invite all of you to post whatever advice or thoughts you have for 2018.

My first thought is a very simple one: perfect is the enemy of done.

My second thought is related to that first one. If the 80-20 rule is true (and it often seems to be), you can get five things done well — that is, to 80 percent — in the same time you would take to get one thing done perfectly.

Every once in a while you run across something that has to be done exactly right. But for most of life, good enough is good enough.

When you don’t come up with the best response in a conversation, try not to worry about it so much. It is usually just your pride at stake. Your sanity should always be a matter of greater importance than your pride.
