Cal Thomas comments on the MSM’s commie-friendly past

Communism’s enablers and excusers

“The Media Research Center (MRC) has compiled reports, editorials, articles and commentary that extend over the last 22 years revealing how the pre-Fox, pre-talk-radio liberal media were the handmaidens of one of the greatest totalitarian evils to strike the planet.”

The MRC has a report called Better Off Red: Twenty Years After the Fall of the Berlin Wall, Recalling the Liberal Media’s Blindness to the Evil of Communism.

I haven’t read the whole report, but here’s a good quote.

The media fancy themselves as those who give voice to the voiceless, who stand as a check on those in power. But looking back at the media’s track record on communism, one sees a press that was too willing to act as a mouthpiece for the world’s worst dictatorships, and too accepting of the perverse claim that communism meant safety and security for its people.

That’s a bit of a bizarre quote, since we installed some of the world’s worst dictators simply because they weren’t communists.

    There is that.

The cold war made everything east v. west, and to get a leg up on the Soviets we put up with (or even supported) monsters in little places to oppose monsters in big places.

Hardly any room for comparison, our “monsters” to theirs. Who do we have to stack up against Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot?

In terns of numbers killed, there’s no comparison. We allowed little monsters to help us against big monsters.
