Can you hear “lie” in this Democratic mumble at President Bush?
by Greg Krehbiel on 22 September 2009
In a thread below, kdeb asks for the Youtube of Obama booing Bush. I didn’t find that, but I did find this.
Maybe civility only matters when it’s a black Democrat on the podium.

I’m not sure. Do you have a flash player installed? You might try installing shockwave and see if that helps.

I only heard mumbling. Maybe I could not hear the booing because of that Jethro Tull concert back in 1972. But it seems to me that if people are allied to cheer the president they are also allowed to boo. In a sppech there are always those pauses when the audience has the opportunity to cheer or boo. Shouting out statements of one’s own, such as “you lie!”, while the speaker is still trying to make his point takes the whole thing to another level. I think it would also be inappropriate for the president’s supporters to shout out something like “you tell ‘em!” in a comparable situation.
It’s amazing how finely we have to slice and dice what seems to be a simple little thing.

I can’t hear anything distinct either, but I’ll bet they’re not saying “That’s a good thought.”
The point is that they’re saying disapproving words, not just clapping or booing. The distinction may only be that we can’t hear the words they’re saying.
I’m not defending Wilson. He shouldn’t have shouted out like that. My point is that the manufactured shock about Wilson’s comment is silly. Democrats haven’t always been polite to Republicans and vice versa.
