Just what is socialism?

Just started reading this, but it looks very interesting. Already found this:

What did they do to merit being labeled socialist? In various ways, they represented the changes of the 20th century: feminism, civil rights, decolonization, relativism and progressive education.

    On second thought, now that I’ve read the whole thing, it’s somewhat less interesting than I expected.

    I think people use the word to mean …

    • more government control of business and the economy
    • more regulations affecting what we can do with our own property (like what homeowners’ associations do)
    • re-distribution of wealth
    • an “everybody wins” attitude rather than celebrating excellence
