Note to Democrats: Drop Pelosi now!

by Greg Krehbiel on 15 May 2009

My impression of this story (I have not followed it closely) is that Ms. Pelosi has been caught in a series of back-pedaling lies.

“No, I didn’t hear about it.”

“Oh, maybe they talked about it, but I was asleep.”

“They only talked about waterboarding as a possibility — they didn’t say they were doing it.”

And now, to distract attention from her dissembling, she’s decided to attack the CIA.

“They’ve been lying to me all along!”

The Democrats have a short window of opportunity. They have substantial majorities in both Houses and they have the presidency. They have a certain amount of good will with the public, despite the economic hard times. (Or to some degree because of hard times.) They have a few more months to get things done, and then we start into campaign mode for the mid-term elections in 2010, where Democrats will undoubtedly lose some seats.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want them to get anything done. I’m happy to see them waste their time following inept leaders like Pelosi. But if they want to make progress with their agenda they’re going to have to drop her and move on.

I don’t much like Pelosi either, although it’s hard for me to put a finger on why.

Oh wait, I know. She’s a politician (in the worst sense)

Maybe not that long. I’m going to a GOP congressional candidacy announcement this afternoon.
