Could we have a third-world pope?
by Greg Krehbiel on 30 September 2003
While Cardinal Ratzinger asks us to pray for ailing JPII, there’s speculation that the new cardinals will select a conservative, third-world bishop as his successor.
“The church of the 21st century will be brown and black,” according to R. Scott Appleby, professor of history at the University of Notre Dame. “The church is growing rapidly in Africa, it is an enormous presence in Latin America, and it’s growing in Asia, while the church in Europe and North America is barely holding its own at diminished levels of participation.”

I remember 25 years ago even a non-Italian Pope was unthinkable. Now all bets are off. I think it would be pretty refeshing to have a non-caucasion pope.
"That is whyyyyyyy" I vote for Fr. Ming.
For those outside, Fr. Ming, who is from communist China, speaks with a heavy accent and that’s one of his favorite expressions. He’s a pretty good homilist and confessor, too.
