Remember Anita Hill? Immediately following those disgusting hearings in Congress, the American public believed Clarence Thomas by a wide margin. But after a year of media spin, the polls flipped.

The lesson is clear. The media is in the business of creating and molding public opinion.

Jonah Goldberg reminded me of that in his latest column: ‘The focus group “real Americans” I saw on TV were impressed, and I bet lots of other Americans were too. The question is whether that impression will be revised in the next few weeks as the Democrats and the media try to spin this as a disaster.’

The reason the Dems are freaking out, is there are too many conservatives like Laura Ingraham around who can defuse the rewriting of history in realtime. Examples here. I don’t think the Gergens of the world even really know theya re doing this. They exist in an alternative universe where their speech makes sense.
