“Will the gentleman yield?”

I listen to CSPAN radio a fair amount, and one thing I’ve often wondered is who interrupts whom more often?
It would be a fairly straight-forward study. You’d look for the phrases “will the gentleman/gentlelady yield” and see whether it’s a Republican interrupting a Democrat or vice versa. (Of course sometimes it’s within the same party.)
I have a suspicion Democrats interrupt more frequently, but I’d be interested in hearing the actual numbers.

I would wonder if that phrase represents an actual interruption, or is simply a formality.

That’s a good question. I’m only going by what I hear on CSPAN — and it’s not as if I’ve heard lots and lots of it.
