The platinum coin

by Greg Krehbiel on 10 January 2013

I agree with his reasons for not minting the platinum coin. I don’t agree with everything he says about strategies and who is being extreme.

Mr. President, don’t mint that platinum coin!

perhaps the president could instigate the minting of a single coin that represents the sum of congressional salaries for the next year … toss it into the hall and let them get after it gladiator style.

i’m all for systematically changing our processes that lead to grappling with debt – and it is debt, we need to pay it. the republican fringe stratagem of simply defaulting …. is pragmatically insane.

i’m not for the coin either … but congress is caustic.

I would be entirely in favor of conditioning the salaries of Congress and the president on fixing the fiscal mess.

I can never figure Ezra Klein out. Sometimes he really seems to know what he’s talking about, but other times, I just don’t know.

The biggest thing we need is a full understanding of what our current monetary system means, and I’m nowhere near convinced that we have that. There is a particular point of view I prefer, but I could very well be wrong.
