When speaking about a wonderful, strong ABV IPA… my brother once declared: “one puts the world in perspective, a second puts it aside.”

I have been known to drink a good amount of beer, usually not more than 2 or 3 in a day. It doesn’t at all get me drunk. But the mood shift that it brings about is not conducive to doing research.

When I was in IT, I found that even one beer at lunch took enough of an edge off my concentration that I couldn’t program as well.

It never bothered me when I was an editor.

Just one normal sized beer (0.33 litres in Europe) wouldn’t have that kind of effect on me in my work (which involves a kind of editing). But if I drink one, I will want another. Usually I reach satiety at 1 litre, but that is too much for my work.
